Topical Vapor Barriers
What is a vapor barrier?
Vapor barriers help control moisture migration from the ground into your home’s interior. This is especially important in areas with high groundwater levels or in regions prone to heavy rainfall. Excessive moisture can lead to various issues, such as mold growth, rot, and damage to flooring and building materials. Concrete itself is porous and can absorb moisture, which can lead to cracking, spalling, and other forms of deterioration over time.
Modern building standards generally include installing a vapor barrier below any concrete slab. Barriers that can protect the slab from absorbing moisture directly from the ground are the most effective. In many instances, the concrete we work on pre-dates this standard, or the underlying vapor barrier has become compromised. In these cases we employ topical vapor barriers to mitigate moisture migration into your home.
Extend the life of your concrete
A vapor barrier can extend the lifespan of your concrete slab by reducing moisture-related damage. Even if you don’t experience moisture issues immediately, a vapor barrier provides an added layer of protection. It offers peace of mind knowing that your property is better shielded against potential moisture problems in the future.
